Eamonn Murphy presents UNAIDS award to Ukrainian doctor at the National LGBTIQ Conference of Ukraine

At this year’s National LGBTIQ Conference in Ukraine, UNAIDS Regional Director for Eastern Europe, Central Asia and the Asia-Pacific Eamon Murphy personally presented a letter of appreciation to Ukrainian infectious disease specialist Olenka Pavlyshyn.

She was recognized for her significant contribution to the fight against stigma and discrimination against people living with HIV, as well as for creating a safe and supportive environment for her patients.

The story of a doctor who changes lives

Olenka Pavlyshyn has more than 20 years of experience in the treatment of HIV/AIDS and hepatitis. Her first patient was a pregnant woman with HIV who, thanks to treatment, gave birth to five healthy children. Today, Olena continues to support her patients not only as a professional, but also as a person who actively fights against prejudice in healthcare and in society in general.

The doctor shared her impressions of the recognition on social media:

“I am very pleased to receive such recognition from UNAIDS as the only infectious disease specialist in Ukraine who is friendly to HIV patients. This is the most valuable feedback about my work.”
