The IAS 2027 conference will be held virtually in Geneva

The International AIDS Society (IAS) has announced that the 14th IAS Conference on HIV Science will be held online in Geneva, Switzerland, from July 11 to 15, 2027, with an expected attendance of approximately 5,000 delegates from more than 130 countries. This event is considered one of the most influential in the field of HIV research and plays a key role in disseminating new discoveries, innovative approaches, and findings that can influence policies and practices in the global fight against the virus.

The organizers emphasize that IAS 2027 will cover the latest advances in HIV prevention, treatment, and understanding, as well as the commitment to ensuring access to advanced methods for all who need them. Conference co-chair and IAS president-elect Kenneth Ngure noted that the world has a “new set of tools,” including long-acting therapies and preventive measures, that could bring the HIV pandemic closer to an end, but many of these are still unavailable to the most vulnerable groups due to funding and access issues. The meeting in Geneva, an international hub for health and human rights, is intended to be a platform for knowledge sharing among scientists, program leaders, policymakers, and community representatives to promote greater access to new solutions.

Geneva was not chosen by chance: the city has a long tradition of hosting leading organizations in the field of public health and human rights, and is also home to one of the few people considered to be “cured” of HIV thanks to a unique medical intervention. Local medical centers, including university hospitals, offer comprehensive, non-discriminatory care to people with HIV, making the city a fitting location to discuss the future of the global response to the pandemic. Registration for the conference will open in November 2026, and the program will include presentations, discussions, poster sessions, and other formats aimed at sharing the latest scientific data and practices.

In December last year, Andriy Klepikov, director of the Alliance for Public Health, was elected president of the International AIDS Society (IAS). The International AIDS Society brings together more than 12,000 professionals from more than 170 countries around the world. It is a key platform for shaping global policies, exchanging scientific data, and setting strategic priorities in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
