Young Ukrainian women under the burden of stress and anxiety: Teenergizer survey

One in three Ukrainian women aged 18–30 experiences constant stress: a Teenergizer study has revealed a widespread mental health crisis among young people.

Almost all young women in Ukraine live under the pressure of anxiety, depression, and uncertainty about their own safety, according to a new Teenergizer study conducted in September 2025. The survey, which involved 129 women aged 18 to 30, showed that 97.7% regularly experience stress or emotional exhaustion, and over 90% face anxiety or depression.

Almost 9 out of 10 respondents reported feeling unsafe at least some of the time. Despite this, more than 40% do not know where to turn in the event of a psychological crisis, or have only a partial understanding of the services available. Only 6.2% of respondents consider mental health services to be “very accessible.” Teenergizer notes that despite the prevalence of problems, 81% of respondents have never sought help, even if they knew where to get it.

The main reason for refusing psychological help is lack of funds (70.5%). Nearly 15% noted that they face several obstacles at once — from financial difficulties to lack of information and doubts about confidentiality.

The authors of the report emphasize that financial inaccessibility and uncertainty about reliable sources of help force many to continue to “suffer in silence, unaware of potential ‘lifelines.’”

Most respondents (over 86%) prefer remote, anonymous, or individual support formats — primarily online counseling and chatbots. This indicates a demand for confidentiality and convenience that the traditional offline model does not provide.

Teenergizer calls on NGOs, government agencies, and international donors to expand access to free remote services, conduct targeted information campaigns, and create financial mechanisms to cover the cost of therapy for female students and unemployed youth.

The organization suggests paying special attention to vulnerable groups — IDPs, LGBTQ+ and other communities for whom access to help is even more difficult. Psychological exhaustion is a collective reality that requires a systemic response, the report notes.

Teenergizer concludes that the mental health crisis among young women in Ukraine is widespread and requires immediate solutions — primarily digital, free, and confidential support formats.
