HIV cures at the forefront: AIDS 2026 to kick off with special conference

The International AIDS Society (IAS) has announced a separate HIV Cure pre-conference ahead of AIDS 2026, which will discuss the latest approaches to achieving remission and a potential cure for HIV.

The search for effective ways to achieve remission and a potential cure for HIV will be one of the key scientific directions of the 26th International AIDS Conference AIDS 2026, which will be held in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil). The International AIDS Society (IAS) has officially announced the holding of a separate HIV Cure 2026 pre-conference: HIV Cure Without Borders – Science, Community and Latin America, which will precede the main program of the forum.

According to the IAS, the event is to bring together leading scientists, representatives of civil society, people living with HIV, as well as public health specialists to discuss the latest advances in the direction of a cure for HIV. Special emphasis will be placed on the role of Latin American countries and the need to ensure global access to future innovative approaches.

The organizers note that the conference will be held under the slogan “HIV Cure Without Borders”, which emphasizes the importance of international cooperation in the field of scientific research and the implementation of new solutions. One of the central themes will be ensuring equitable access to future technologies regardless of the country’s income level or the capabilities of its health care system.

According to the IAS, the pre-conference program includes a discussion of current research areas related to the search for a functional or complete cure for HIV. At the same time, the organizers have not yet published a complete list of scientific reports or research results that will be presented during the event. Therefore, any statements about specific scientific breakthroughs or new clinical results cannot currently be considered confirmed within the framework of the official AIDS 2026 program.

Special attention is planned to be paid to the interaction between the scientific community and public organizations. The IAS emphasizes that engaging communities of people living with HIV remains a key principle in the development of cure research. This approach should help ensure that future innovations meet the real needs of patients and health systems.

The holding of the HIV Cure special conference on the eve of AIDS 2026 demonstrates the growing role of research aimed at achieving durable remission or cure of HIV. While antiretroviral therapy now allows millions of people to control their infection and live full lives, the search for new solutions remains one of the most important priorities of the global response to HIV.

It is expected that the results of the discussions and scientific presentations presented during HIV Cure 2026 and the main AIDS 2026 conference will help determine further priorities for international research in the field of cure of HIV and the development of innovative approaches to combat the epidemic.
