COVID-19 provokes the fungal infection development in patients

Having suffered the coronavirus, patients may develop post-COVID fungal infections causing serious complications. According to infectious disease specialist Tetyana Lohinova, dysbacteriosis caused by Candida albicans and Aspergillus fungi are most common in Ukraine.

She told about this on Ukraine 24 TV.

“Patients were treated not only with steroids but also with antibiotics. Antibiotics also cause dysbiosis of the human body. In our country,  candidiasis is the most often case. These fungal infections can also grow quite well in the context of antibiotic treatment together with corticosteroids, which suppress inflammatory processes. This infection can not only affect the eyes and nasal cavity, but also the lungs”, the specialist said.

As she stated, fungal infection is a very serious post-COVID infection that postpones recovery from COVID-19. This complication requires careful treatment with special drugs.
