Featured Speakers at AIDS 2024. Eastern Europe and Central Asia in focus

The 25th International AIDS Conference (AIDS 2024) will take place in Munich from July 22 to 26. This biennial global meeting brings together leading scientists, NGOs, representatives of communities affected by HIV, international organizations and many others to discuss pressing issues in the fight against HIV.

The conference recently announced a list of featured speakers, including the Chancellor of Germany, the Executive Director of UNAIDS, Nobel Prize winners, human rights activists, HIV activists, global health leaders and renowned journalists. Some of the keynote speakers are from Eastern Europe and Central Asia, as the EECA region is the focus of this year’s conference.

VirusOFF would like to introduce you to the AIDS 2024 featured speakers from our region – Eastern Europe and Central Asia. At the opening and closing sessions of the conference, there will also be participants from the EECA region. We would also like to remind you that all conference sessions will be available for online participants with russian translation.

Among the announced featured speakers for the AIDS 2024 conference: 

Andriy Klepikov

Executive director of the Alliance for Public Health, will represent the Eastern Europe and Central Asia region as co-chair of the international conference. Alliance for Public Health is one of the largest NGOs in Ukraine and the EECA region specializing in HIV and TB.  

Olga Gvozdetska

Representative from Ukraine, is Acting Deputy Director General of the Public Health Centre of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine. In 2023, she was elected Vice Chair of the regional network of the International Association of National Institutes of Public Health. Olga Gvozdetska has about 20 years of experience in public health, both in the private and public sectors.

Anton Basenko

Chairman of the Board of the International Network of People who Use Drugs (INPUD). Anton Basenko is an activist in the community of people who use drugs and people on OST, people living with HIV and people living with HCV. Since 2010 he has been working in the field of HIV and TB services, harm reduction and advocacy in local and national NGOs in Ukraine. Since 2013 he has been working in Alliance for Public Health, coordinating international and national projects on prevention and treatment of HIV, TB, viral hepatitis among key populations, as well as counseling on community, rights and gender issues. He has written articles, guidelines and publications for communities and professionals.

Vera Brezhneva

Representative from Ukraine. She has been a UNAIDS Goodwill Ambassador for Eastern Europe and Central Asia since 2014. The well-known singer, actress and TV presenter uses her influence to raise awareness of the HIV epidemic and promote human rights by engaging with health officials, people living with HIV and affected communities through visits, campaigns, social media initiatives and media outreach.

Milosz Parczewski

Professor of Medicine, Vice President of the Governing Board of the European AIDS Clinical Society (EACS) and President of the Polish AIDS Research Society. Professor Milosz remains an active practicing infectious disease physician, heading the Department of Infectious, Tropical Diseases and Acquired Immunodeficiency at the Pomeranian Medical University in Szczecin, Poland.
