The Eurasian Women’s Network on AIDS (EWNA) has announced the appointment of a new Executive Director. As of February 17, 2025, Medea Khmelidze has taken on this role, succeeding Svitlana Moroz, whose leadership has significantly contributed to the organization’s growth and mission.
EWNA emphasized that despite numerous crises in the region and globally, they anticipate transformative feminist leadership from Medea Khmelidze. Her work will focus not only on strengthening the EWNA team but also on expanding the movement for sexual and reproductive health, women’s rights, and HIV justice.
“I am deeply committed to advancing women’s leadership and have extensive experience in HIV services and human rights advocacy. With a personal connection to the HIV issue, I am eager to leverage my knowledge and energy to further strengthen EWNA and its impact on the lives of women in the Eastern Europe and Central Asia region,” said Medea Khmelidze while applying for the position.
Medea Khmelidze holds a master’s degree in social work and has over 10 years of successful experience in project and program management, fundraising, financial oversight, and team leadership at both national and regional levels. She specializes in the development of women’s leadership, gender equality in the HIV response, advocacy campaigns, research, and community system development in the areas of sexual and reproductive health and rights, human rights, and combating gender-based and violence against women.
Before joining EWNA, she served as the co-director of the Georgian Union of People Living with HIV and was a member of the ASTRA Network Advisory Board.
