Applications for Positive Action are open from September 3 (00:01 UK Standard Time) till September 22 (23:59 UK Standard Time). During this period, there will also be two webinars for jobseekers. Applications will be reviewed by the Technical Review Committee at a meeting in October 2021.

“As of the end of 2019, approximately 1.7 million people in Eastern Europe and Central Asia were infected with HIV. It is one of two regions in the world where HIV incidence continues to rise rapidly. Between 2010 and 2018, the number of HIV infections increased by 27% per year, the fund said. – The epidemic is predominantly spreading in key populations (in particular among injecting drug users). At the same time, coverage of harm reduction and other HIV prevention programs in key countries of the region is rather low. Sexual partners of key affected populations, in particular sex workers and injecting drug users, are at increased risk of contracting HIV. In 2014, they accounted for 33% of new infections in the region. HIV prevalence among injecting drug users is also high in other countries: approximately 30.8% in Belarus and 22.6% in Ukraine. In Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Belarus and Ukraine, HIV infection rates are higher among women who inject drugs than among men. Sex work is closely linked to injecting drug use in the region. For example, in Central Asia, HIV prevalence among female sex workers and injecting drug users is 20 times higher than among those who do not use them. Between 2001 and 2011, HIV prevalence among young people (aged 15-24) in Eastern Europe and Central Asia doubled. It is estimated that in 2017 0.2% of people aged 15-24 in the region were infected with HIV, with the same prevalence among young men and women.”
