On 14 November 2025, the University of Paris-Cité will host an international colloquium on “Shaping Inclusive Health in Europe: Infectious Diseases, Support Networks and Migrant Agency”. The event will bring together researchers, policymakers and civil society representatives to discuss pressing challenges in the health of migrants and refugees.
The program of the event includes oral presentations, posters and panel discussions on HIV, tuberculosis and hepatitis treatment, access to health services and mental health support for migrants in the WHO European Region. All submissions will be selected through peer review.
Research shows that migrants often face health inequalities. For example, HIV prevalence among some migrant groups is 2–4 times higher than among the local population (ECDC, 2023), and 30–60% of refugees have significant difficulties accessing healthcare (WHO Europe, 2022). In addition, according to Lancet (2024), 40% of Ukrainians displaced by war report symptoms of anxiety or depression.
The colloquium is organized by Cermes3, CEPED and REG with the support of ANRS|MIE and Inserm. Particular attention will be paid to the experiences of Ukrainian and Eastern European migrants, in particular key and vulnerable groups, as well as the role of community initiatives in achieving Sustainable Development Goal 3 — ensuring healthy lives and well-being for all.
The organizing committee includes: Dr. Annabel Degre du Lou (CEPED, IRD–University of Paris), Dr. Daniel Kashnitsky (Cermes3, University of Paris-Cité, responsible organizer), Cristina Rivera (100% Life Foundation, Ukraine), Professor Laurent Simmat-Duran (Cermes3) and Maria Vyatchyna (University of Tartu, Estonia).
Researchers from academic institutions and the public sector are invited to submit abstracts in English (up to 300 words) and a short biography (up to 100 words) to daniel.kashnitsky@inserm.fr by September 7, 2025. The application should indicate whether it is an oral presentation or a poster, and, if applicable, a request for a limited number of scholarships to cover travel expenses.
