Navigating global HIV criminalization – an empowerment course

The HIV Justice Network, representing HIV JUSTICE WORLDWIDE, is proud to announce the launch of The HIV Criminalisation Online Course. This comprehensive free course offers a global perspective on HIV criminalization, catering to individuals keen on delving deeper into the subject and equipping themselves with effective advocacy tools. Virsoff strongly encourages everyone interested in matters related to HIV criminalization and its counteraction to participate in this event.

Available in English, French, Spanish, and Russian, this online on-demand course is free to access. By completing the course, participants will gain a profound understanding of various aspects, including what HIV criminalization entails and how it perpetuates stigma against individuals living with HIV. The adverse impacts on both individual and public health, as well as on human rights, are explored, emphasizing the detrimental effects on the overall HIV response.

The course provides insights into compelling arguments and evidence for effective advocacy against HIV criminalization, utilizing tools and resources offered by the HIV Justice Network (HJN) and its partners from HIV JUSTICE WORLDWIDE (HJWW). Upon completion, participants will receive a certificate, acknowledging their understanding of the critical issues surrounding HIV criminalization.

Structured into six main chapters, with additional optional resources, the course is designed to take several hours to completion. As a free-to-access, online course, participants can enroll, start, and finish the course at their convenience, pacing themselves through the chapters. The Academy chat is recommended for learners to engage with others, share comments, and provide feedback, fostering a collaborative learning environment.

The HIV Justice Network encourages continued engagement with HJN and HJWW after completing the training, inviting participants to join the global movement aimed at ending HIV criminalization. Acknowledging the financial support from the Robert Carr Fund and UNAIDS, the course expresses gratitude to organizations and individuals who contributed by granting permission to use resources, providing feedback on course design, and testing its functionality and accessibility.

Special appreciation is extended to those individuals personally affected by HIV criminalization, allowing their stories to be shared as part of this educational initiative. Together, let us strive for a world where HIV criminalization is eradicated, and justice prevails for all.
